The Roll - Privacy Policy

April 2016

Welcome to our Privacy Policy. It explains what information we collect when you use The Roll (the “App”), and how we use this information. The App is operated by EyeEm Mobile GmbH, Kohlfurter Str. 41/43, 10999 Berlin, Germany (“EyeEm” or “we” or “us”). We are highly committed to respecting and protecting your privacy rights.

Personal Data and Content

You do not need to register or provide any personal data - i.e. information that identifies you as a person - to use the App. When you allow the App to access the photos available on your mobile device, no personal data is collected. All photos reviewed and organized via the App will only be saved temporarily on servers for the duration of the review process. The photos will be deleted immediately upon completion of such process. We will not make your photos available to others and we will not store them. No human will ever see your photos during the review process. We encrypt your content for its transmission to the servers and back using the HTTPS protocol.

Geolocation data

When you allow the App to access the photos available on your mobile device, location information on where a photo has been taken (if such information is included in the metadata of the photo) will automatically be accessed and processed by the App. Such location information will only be used for creating location albums in the App. It will also be used for displaying and filing the respective photo in such location albums. It will not otherwise be collected, transmitted or used by EyeEm.

Mobile analysis

To help us to continuously improve and optimize our Services, we work with the third party analytics provider Amplitude from Amplitude Inc. Therefore, the App will collect certain non-personal information automatically, such as your unique device identifier (UDID) and mobile phone carrier. This information does not enable us to identify you as an individual and is for internal use only. Further information can be found at

Hockeyapp and Crashlytics

We also use the following two analysis services to identify how and under which circumstances the App crashes: Hockeyapp from Bit Stadium GmbH and Crashlytics from Twitter, Inc. These services look for app crashes, analyze the collected data and provide reports to EyeEm. Therefore, Hockeyapp and Crashlytics automatically collect your device ID. This information gives an indication of how the App was functioning at the time of the crash.

Updating the Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time to reflect changes to our privacy practices. Please ensure that you check the Policy regularly for such updates. In case of material changes, we will notify you via the App.
